We finished up our book pages based on The Mitten ! Last week, we chose our animals out of magazines and painted a colorful mitten. This week, we used our sight words to build a sentence "I see a <animal> hiding in my mitten!". I helped as much as they wanted during the process with letters, drawing out sounds for emphasis. In some cases, children are not ready for this yet and I would write the words out for copying. In a few cases, kids were ready to tackle it solo. No matter how it was done, they all worked hard and took pride in their wonderful book pages!
Ee is for Elmer the Elephant!
We tackled the letter Ee this week with Elmer the Elephant. Every day, we read a story about his silly adventures. We made an elephant stretch out for the letter Ee, and practiced writing E,e, Q, and q with our Race to the Top game. We made Elmer masks at our art centers, and enjoyed making felt Elmer Elephants at our red table when we had a few minutes in between centers. Our elephants had some fun in the snow too, when they pulled on colorful knee socks for trunks and dug through the snow for letters to make words.
Other Fun!
circle time number sort |
There are so many ways to show a number! |
Our interactive board has number matching, too! |
No pencils needed here! We practiced our letters with chalk and paint.
And took some time to free paint, too!
We've had a few friends sick this week, so we learned a little bit about germs and how to avoid them. We also practiced washing our hands carefully, and washed them A LOT throughout the mornings.
Hopefully everyone will be healthy and back to school soon!
