Nocturnal Fun

We turned out all the lights and had some fun in the dark on Friday, just like all the nocturnal animals we have been studying!

We had a tent set up for reading books about nocturnal animals by flashlight:

Light Bright was a fun fine motor and letter activity:

Everyone tried out making glowing pictures and writing with the highlighters under a blacklight:

We had several fun sensory activities: glowing buckets of water beads, Halloween shapes and critters, gems on the light table, and glow in the dark slime!

We turned the lights back on and finished up with a night animal snack: yummy owl treats!

Pumpkin Patch

We walked over to the WIUMC pumpkin patch yesterday! It was a beautiful day, and we sang our Halloween songs as we trekked across the street. Once there, we hunted for the biggest, smallest, bumpiest, smoothest, and strangest pumpkins we could find. We all practiced our good manners to purchase a small pumpkin- saying please and thank you to the helpful gentleman selling the pumpkins. It was a fun fall morning!

Everybody Needs a Pet Rock!

Our little authors were busy last week! We read two books about pet rocks: Everybody Needs A Rock and Greg Granite. Then we carefully looked over a table of rocks to pick one that looked just right. We painted, and added all kinds of eyes, feathers, fur balls, etc, until our rocks looked just as unique and fun as we are ourselves! Best part of all was hearing all the interesting ideas about these new pets to record for our newest class book. Take a look at the pages below!

ps- You can't see it in the picture due to privacy retouching, but it is very impressive how the children were able to write their names in a much more constrained space, and anchor them on the line. Kindergarten here we come!
