Bike Day 2015

Bike Day was a great success! We had a wonderful time riding our bikes and scooters to help raise money for St. Jude's Children's Hospital.

Since our riding time was later in the morning, we also had time to build with some legos, work on our words "stop" and "go", and dye some Easter eggs before we headed outside. After we were done with all that riding on such a warm spring day, we cooled off with an icy treat, then headed back out to enjoy some fun on the playground.

Rainbow Fun

We packed a lot of fun and learning into our 3 day week! We started off talking about March wild weather- which we have seen a lot of lately. After reading In Like a Lion, Out Like a Lamb, we talked about the coming of spring, and all the wild weather that can come with it. At centers, we made some cute lions and lambs to decorate our bulletin board, read a magazine about wind for guided reading, and played with some rainbow colored tornado tubes. We talked about how tornados are rare very fast wind storms that spin around, and how we must always follow adult directions to get inside in a safe place if a tornado comes near our neighborhood.

On Thursday, we jumped into the colorful realm of rainbows, along with the letter Rr. We learned about the 7 colors, and how we can remember the order if we know how ROY G. BIV spells his name. We saw a cute music video by They Might be Giants about Roy G. Biv. (You can check it out on youtube- it's pretty cute!) At centers, we painted some rainbow hair friends, played with our tornado tubes some more, and made beautiful rainbow fruit pizza for snack.

On Friday, we continued talking about Rr as we made a giant red rocket covered with Rr pictures we found in magazines. We also explored color mixing with red, yellow and blue paint.

Friday was also our third March birthday- Happy Birthday to Mrs. Horton! We finished the week out with some birthday ice cream.
