All About Me!

Hello September!

The beginning of a new month made it a great time to start our calendar skills at circle time. Our leader holds the pointer and guides us through the month, day of the week and date each morning. We all put our name cards in a chart to see who's here, and count the names. 100th Day is a big Pre-K holiday, and we've been counting (and exercising) our way to 100 and the big celebration.

Books this week fit into our "All About Me" theme:

We talk about letters all the time, and zeroed in on the letter Mm with our pocket chart at circle time and some Mm bracelets at a morning job table.

Encouraging independence! This interactive circle time book is all about the ways we can help ourselves and help out others.

We can pour our own water at snack, and peel our own bananas. We also clean up our placemats and napkins, stack our cups for recycling and push in our chairs when we leave the table. We love to help wash the tables, too!

Careful hands! We are practicing holding our pencils with a PINCH and REST (pointer and thumb pinch, rest of fingers are to rest). This is tricky to learn, and takes lots of reminders at school and home. But, it will make writing so much easier and more comfortable if we build good basic habits now! Scissors also have a correct grip: thumb on top, fingers on the bottom. We cut away from our bodies, and turn the PAPER around, not our hand.

Plastic straws are super fun to cut: they pop pop pop all over the place! (They are also hard to cut, but that popping makes it worth trying until we get it 😀 ).

Those straw pieces all got glued into colorful names!

We matched uppercase and lowercase letters,

made super silly rock faces,

and even wrote our first class book this week!
We used clues to guess who is hidden under the "Who Am I" flaps.

Here's a sneak peek of our pages (without the cover flaps stapled on yet):

Mini Me Projects!
We made some little versions of ourselves this week. First we chose from a variety of skin tone paints the shade that we thought matched our arms. Then we picked out some clothes to wear and added faces. We used mirrors to take a look at ourselves so we could be sure our Mini Me matched up.

Playdough faces!

Our little authors are turning into little readers too! After tracing our names and picking out some favorite foods, we practiced reading our little books with Ms. Heather.

Zootles! We used our imaginations to create with a fun new building toy.

And last but not least, our "Too Much Glue" projects finally dried! We carefully peeled them off the plastic and got to see our little glue people.
