We Love Clifford!

We were all seeing (and wearing) red this morning, because today was all about our favorite big red dog- Clifford! After dropping off our donations for area pet rescues, we read 2 Clifford books by Norman Bridwell at circle time. Then we worked on our counting skills by rolling the dice and counting out dog bones into dog bowls. We counted out 2 bowls at a time, then talked about how many bones, which bowl had more bones, which bowl had less, and how many bones altogether? We were working on our number sense with Clifford!

After our math workout, it was time to cook with Clifford. We used Chex cereal, sugar, cocoa powder, butter, and sun butter (usually this would be peanut butter, but the sun butter worked great as a safer alternative with the peanut allergies in the building) to make puppy chow.  Circle time was really long today, and we had our brains working hard the whole time. We did a great job getting a lot of learning done!

Next, we were off to some big red centers. One group worked with Mrs. Horton to create Clifford bag puppets. These will come home Monday after the glue dries. Ms. Heather's group used big and little dog biscuits to make bone prints. We could count, make patterns or just enjoy the art process. After finishing our paintings, we had a bit of time to enjoy some Clifford books on our own. Our last center today was dog house building for Clifford and his friends. Great teamwork made some great houses!

We ended our day with a birthday treat and our puppy chow. Next week, we'll be learning with another familiar storybook friend: Pete the Cat!

Check out some pictures of our day (and note- it's not your screen making things look "vintage", Ms. Heather forgot to check the camera settings- oops!)
