Happy New Year!

Welcome back to school! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas break,
and is excited to be back-> 2013 is going to be a great year!

We started off our day with some table work sorting out pictures of cold and warm things and gluing them together in groups. We took a little longer than usual to do this since everyone was excited to see friends after vacation, and had lots to talk about while we worked. At circle time, we read a book about polar bears, talked about the calendar and our new month and year, and went around the circle sharing our favorite surprises from Santa. After a quick explanation about our day's activities, we split up into groups for centers. Today we had a whole bunch of friends absent, so we had 3 centers (with groups of 3) instead of our usual 4.

First up- sparkly white winter playdough! Using a tray of buttons, strips of fleece, and short pieces of pipe cleaners, we made some very creative snowmen. I saw big ones, little ones, snow mommies, snow daddies and snow kids throughout the morning!

Our second center was buddy reading in our new igloo tent. It's a cozy place to snuggle up with a stuffed animal buddy and look at some books, especially on a rainy gray day like today!

Our third center today was making fireworks pictures for our January calendar. Using homemade puffy paint in squeeze bottles, we made all kinds of colorful lines and designs on black paper. Then Ms. Heather popped it in the microwave, and in less than a minute we had a puffed up dry painting to celebrate the new year!

After centers, we had music with Ms. Meghan and finished up our day with some math musical chairs, since we could not go to the playground. Before we knew it, our day was done.
See you tomorrow!
