Happy Mother's Day!

Friday was our Mother's Day program! The kids have been getting their mommy's presents ready for a while, and they are very proud of their finished art. Pre-K kids can create amazing things!

First, we started with the paper. All the children covered a tray of shaving cream with drizzles and blobs of paint in several colors. Then, they laid a piece of paper on top and gently rubbed on the back to make sure it was all touching the shaving cream/paint (I told them to pet it like they were petting a kitten :) ). After peeling up the paper, it was time to use the magic squeegee to pull all the mess off and enjoy the oohs and aahs as the swirly colors appeared on the paper. This part was a fun spectator sport for those that had already finished or were waiting for a turn. Every paper came out a little bit different!

We also did some finger-painting to make the stems, and painted the backgrounds of our canvases.

After the paper dried it was time to cut. For a few days, we took 5 minutes out to cut out little flower petal shapes in different sizes. We carefully gathered up our petals each day and stored them in a bag until it was time to create our flowers.

Meanwhile, Ms. Heather had to do her part and take pictures (a LOT of pictures- Ms. Heather needed lots of choices to pick one that would hold the flowers just right :) ).

Time to put it all together! Using all those flower petals, we made flowers on our canvas, carefully brushing glue on each one.

Finishing the frames! We carefully dipped our fingertips in paint to make a few fingerprints on each frame. We also made 3 more fingerprints on scrap paper. Then, Mrs. Horton showed us how to turn those fingerprints into bees, butterflies and ladybugs. Each of us practiced how to do it on the extra fingerprints, then did it all on our own on the frames. We can do anything with a little bit of practice!

Our song for the program talks about flowers, so we also made some fun flowers to hold while we sing. After painting a plate, we trimmed it into a flower shape and added some bling and a little note for mom.

We hope all the moms love their new art!
