Growing in the Garden!

We came back from Spring Break full of smiles and giggles to be back at school again!

We focused in on the letter Yy- building it at circle time, thinking of Yy words, writing it and practicing that tricky sound. We loved the book Extra Yarn, and made some very creative art with our own extra yarn. This was a sticky thing to do- glue and yarn do not get along well! We used plates of glue, and pulled, dragged and dipped the yarn to get it good and sticky. We used tongs to help us out, and kept a lot of wipers near by for fingers. After drying, we added some watercolor paint. It was a fun project, and had lots of fine motor and problem solving practice along the way.

Spring means flowers and plants in the garden!
We've been walking by all the beautiful flowering branches on the azaleas both before and after spring break. Tuesday morning, we sat down with some markers and paper to draw branches and leaves. Then we used plastic bottle bottoms and paint to add lots of flowers. The outside azaleas had faded by the end of the week, but our bulletin board is still blooming!

We read all about carrots in our magazine. We learned that plants get to grow up and down, and have roots, stems, leaves and flowers.

Spring rhyming words! Our interactive board has switched from letters and sounds to rhyming pictures. We have been practicing these at circle, reading time, or at our rug center.

And, last but not least, our sensory bin changed to a garden for April! We are LOVING all the "dirt" (brown rice), pots, flowers, garden tools, bugs and snakes.

April also means that it is our turn to decorate the school bulletin board in the hallway.
Pre-K really is Oceans of Fun!
