Well, there was some disagreement among the groundhogs today, as Punxsutawney Phil and Beauregard Lee made opposite predictions regarding the coming of spring. Either way, we had fun playing with shadows!
Using the overhead projector, we talked about how light is necessary to make a shadow, and what details we could see in a shadow (shape) and what we could not (color, accurate size sometimes). Using manipulatives, we identified animals and shapes by shadows, talking about the initial letter sounds as we went. Then on to shadow reading! We started with the word "at", then built on different initial sounds to change the word. It took a few minutes to get the hang of just changing the onset sound, but we soon got it and had fun reading together!
Everyone made their own shadows, and we turned these pics into a guessing game on Ms. Heather's iPad. Scroll up one pic at a time. Can you guess who is who?
Who are we pretending to be now?
