Literature Links- Everything is Better With a Good Book!
We spent a little time each day working on our Mini Me projects. We started by reading The Adventures of Beekle The Unimaginary Friend- a cute story about an imaginary creature waiting to be imagined by a human so he can have a friend for adventures. We talked about using our imaginations and real vs pretend. The we got started on creating some mini versions of ourselves- our Mini Me's!First, we looked carefully at our own skin tone, and picked paint to match for the Mini Me base coat. After that was dry, we used wiggle eyes, yarn, markers and clothing cut outs to personalize our little buddies. Ms. Heather took some pictures of us that we will use in our first class authored book. Next week, we will share our centers with our new imaginary friends and have some adventures of our own!
We did some crafting with the book Too Much Glue- a funny story about what can happen when a little boy takes his love of using LOTS of glue a little too far. He gets covered in glue, and ends up with all kinds of classroom stuff stuck to himself. Eventually, his daddy just peels the dry glue off him in a giant person shaped collage piece. We made our own glue picture based on the story that used a big puddle of glue, and are watching to see how long it takes to dry. After 4 days things are still a bit gooey in the middle! That's why when we glue we say "just a dot, not a lot" or "a little line will do just fine". Hopefully, our creations will finish drying and come home soon! :)
Tracing the person shape took some careful fine motor control, and filling it in took some strong squeezing muscles. Our hands were tired when we were done!
But, dropping all kinds of goodies to get stuck was a lot of fun!
Some Other Center Fun
We worked on name writing a lot this week. Here we are with our dry erase faces. On the back of each card, as well as the bottom of the front, we practiced tracing our names (already written in yellow highlighter). We'll keep the names private, but after we finished writing names we had a silly fun time drawing some new details on our faces! We added jewelry, hair bows, mustaches, beards, hats, horns and giant tongues. Then we erased it all away and started again!
Another name center was covering our names with little mosaic squares. These are hanging in the hall to brighten our bulletin board, but will come home soon!
Sunflower Inspiration
Friday, we were inspired by some beautiful sunflowers to create paintings using yellow, green, brown and blue. After looking at the sunflowers, each of us painted whatever we felt inspired to create. It didn't have to be flowers, either! Looking at the bold colors inspired all kinds of creative expression, from flowers to skies, minecraft to "beautiful spaces of paint"- as described by the artists themselves.

We also had 2 birthdays to celebrate this week!
We ended each day with some playground time!
