Highlights From This Past Week..

We had fewer days of school this past week due to our mixed up winter weather, but we kept busy learning together. Here are just a few highlights from some of our activities:

Everybody loves to be the leader and hold the flag at pledge time!
Last week, we made creatures just using heart shapes. This week, we practiced our sight words and handwriting by creating a caption saying "I love my __________." We've started using lines and smaller boxes in some of our writing to work on letter scale and placement, and everyone is making lots of progress!

READING! Every week we read a new magazine together in small groups. This week's magazine was all about pink- a color sight word. There are so many emergent reader skills being practiced at this center each week-: directionality of text, one to one word correspondence, sight word recognition, usage of picture clues, and fluency. There's no better way to become a fluent reader than to sit down with a buddy (or a few) and READ together!

Vegetable Taste Testing! We have had 2 taste tests this past week: carrots and celery. For each one, we created a class graph comparing who loved it, just thought it was ok, and really did NOT like each veggie. Our mixed up schedule with school closing and Valentine's Day means we have a few more to do next week too!

Counting to 100! We have been getting ready for 100th Day. Here you can see our heart streamers made to help us count to 100 by 10s.

Snack Recipe Planning! Everyone has brought in a box of snack for us to use in counting out a 100 piece snack on 100th Day. To get ready, we looked at the 15 choices, and glued down pictures of our favorite 10 on a recipe card. Some of us had a lot of trouble narrowing it down to 10, while others needed a little encouragement to try something new and get up to 10. Everybody's different!

Of course, there is always time for fun with friends on the playground!

We ended our week passing out lots of valentines and eating a yummy Valentine's Day lunch!
