Happy Friday!

Friday was a relaxing learning day in the 4's! For centers today, we used stamps and stickers to make sets on preprogrammed cards. Sometimes we lost count, and had to go back and circle the correct number of stamps. Making sets is a skill we will work on all year- it's so much trickier than rote counting or counting a set someone else has made for us!

We had something new at the sensory table table today! We worked on getting the kernels off of dried ears of corn. It takes a bit of patience, and problem solving (not to mention finger muscles) to get the corn off the cob. Eventually, most of us found that popping off kernels individually down a row worked well, while a few students were happier whacking the cob with a rolling pin or scoop. The bristly cobs were a fun new texture to explore, too. In a few days, we should have a new bin full of dried corn to play in with our trucks, scoops and measuring tools.

Another center was placemat making for November. We colored and cut out a turkey body first thing in the morning. At center time, we used a variety of paint colors to create turkey feathers with our fingerprints. Then we glued our turkey body in the front, and have a beautiful new placemat for the month.

Our last center was reading our Let's Find Out magazine about elections. Don't forget to vote on Tuesday!

After centers, we made a cute owl for our snack. We started by using the back of a spoon to spread peanut butter on a graham cracker square. Then we pressed 2 flower shaped cookies into the "glue". 2 m&m's and a candy corn for a beak, and we had a little owl to munch!

Check out the past few posts on school blog (link on sidebar) to see our class at the animal presentation from Oatland Island and singing with the new music teacher on Thursday!
