Finishing the Week!

 We continued our vegetable taste tests by voting on cauliflower and carrots on Thursday and Friday. Monday we'll have a last veggie vote to see which veggies are our favorites. We've also been working on a calendar pattern this month, and observing the weather.

We continued talking about the letter Gg. It's a tricky letter to write, so we practiced coming up to the big chart paper to give it a try. Start like an O, then stop and straight across! At centers, we used the giant chart paper from our circle times to practice lots of writing with our friends. Using the BIG paper and markers was a fun new way to write! 

We read our Let's Find Out magazine about Ireland. We talked about how Ireland is an island, and so green that it even looks green from space! We also learned a bit about leprechauns. Did you know leprechauns make shoes for the fairies? After taking turns reading, we listened for the syllables/ beats in some words. It's tricky how some short words can have more beats than long words.

We had a couple of St. Patrick's Day projects to work on:

Here we are adding many colors of gorgeous glitter to some green shamrocks:

We made little potato leprechaun planters. First we scooped out the top of a potato. Then we added some face details with tacky glue. That had to dry overnight. On Friday, we added a bit of cotton, some grass seed and dirt to the hole. A little water, and hopefully soon we will have some grassy green hair sprouting out of our leprechauns' heads!

So far this week...3/4-3/6

So far this week we have tackled the letter Vv, worked on counting and graphing for math, and had a trip to the library for story time! Most of the pictures below are from Monday, when we started thinking about Vv. It was a tricky letter for brainstorming a list of words at first, but soon we got our thinking going and came up with a great list!

At centers, we worked on tracing to practice our fine motor skills. We used stencils of different shapes and patterns, and when that got old, we traced our own hands.

The people house was out on the rug for our cooperative play center on Monday. We also added a bat cave and super heroes to this center on Wednesday.

Mrs. Horton did handwriting practice with our corn meal trays in another fine motor center. We practiced lots of letters, and had a few minutes to draw our own creations. 

Not surprisingly, we also got to practice our sweeping skills! :)

We did vegetable printing on violet paper in honor of the letter Vv! Broccoli, cauliflower, carrots, cucumber, peppers and yellow squash were all dipped and pressed to make beautiful veggie masterpieces on Monday. We had a great time with this, and didn't mash up our veggies too much, so we printed with them again on Tuesday. We also added various vehicles for Vv and did some track painting!

Tuesday, we played Cariboo in groups on the rug. We pulled a card, and looked for the indicated number of objects or letters on the board. If we found what we were looking for, we opened up the door with the key. Sometimes we found a fish cracker to munch on hiding behind the door!

To continue thinking about Vv, each day this week, we are trying a raw veggie at snack time. Then we vote on whether it tastes great, ok, or pretty bad. After coloring in a box on our bar graph for the day, we also placed our name on the class graph so we could talk at circle time about more, less, how many, etc. So far this week we have tried green peppers, cucumbers and cauliflower. We'll try something new tomorrow!
