The Elephant(s) in the Room!

This week we spent lots of time with Elmer the Elephant! Every day, we read 1 or 2 books about this unique patchwork elephant that loves to play tricks and go exploring with his elephant friends and family. Of course, Elmer is the perfect guide to the tricky and useful letter Ee!

We made our own elephant masks to look like Elmer!

We did some cooking this week: elephant ears! Using long strips of bread dough, we curled up each end until they met in the middle in the shape of an ear. Then we topped them with cinnamon sugar and baked in the oven- yummy!

More colorful elephants appeared at the felt boards!

We talked about the long and short sounds of Ee for our elephant foldout books.

Writing is one of our trickiest tasks! We practiced with our dry erase markers and books. Since Ee can be so tricky, Ms. Heather also brought in her iPads so we could practice on Letter School. We rarely use any kind of electronics here, but every once in a while they can help us learn something in a new way. This app is a favorite, since you have to make the letter exactly right, and it doesn't hide the learning in a lot of extra game play. It's still really fun, though!

We took a break from elephants for a bible story this week: Jonah and the Whale

Pajama Day!

Friday was our annual Pajama Day! We all wore our coziest jammies to school for playtime and movies. We had some fun playing with our friends in the room for a while, and watched Mrs. Horton make our popcorn snack. Then, we got together with the other 4s class to watch our movie- The Talking Words Factory- while we munched our popcorn and got comfy on our blankets. It was a great way to spend a cool rainy morning!

Week of January 18

We started off this week with a day off for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr Day, and ended the week with Pajama Day. In the middle, we reviewed the letter Ii, learned about Qq, counted by 10s, learned about positional words and worked long hours in our ice cream shop!

practicing our handwriting

Qq is for Quilt!

We made an interactive book about positional words. The polar bear moved in the cave, above the fish, between the puffins, etc.

Making sets of 10 bears to count all the way to 100!

Which letter mug of cocoa is hiding the marshmallow?

Puzzle fun with friends!

Ii is for ice cream! We made lots of yummy sundaes and cones at our pom pom ice cream shop!
