Mm is for Me and My Mustache!

The letter Mm was our big topic today at circle time to go along with our sight word ME. We came up with a great list of Mm words, all starting with that mmmm sound!

our morning job- crayon rubbing to reveal our names

We chose a skin tone paint to start out making a Mini Me.

We worked with dry erase markers to practice writing our names. After a bit of practice, we switched over to some self decoration on our dry erase photo cards. We added funny ears, hats, eyes, hair- all kinds of silly fun!

We ended the morning with a last touch of Mm: for MUSTACHE!

Jumping Right In to Pre-K!

We have only had a few days of school so far, but you would never know it if you peeked in our classroom! We have a wonderful group of friends who are already working and playing together like they've been doing it for months. We have started each day of school with smiles and our morning table jobs (apple tree painting for placemats, coloring Aa, cutting squares, and marker writing) after putting away our backpacks and stowing our folders in our cubbies. At our circle times, we have started each morning with picking a leader, reciting the Pledge of Allegiance, singing our Salute the Flag song, and a book. We had some shared writing about our feelings on Tuesday, talked about the letter Aa on Wednesday, spun the color wheel and answered questions about ourselves on Thursday and found all the Aa's in our names on Friday. Then, off to our morning centers! Each day, we have 3 groups that rotate through 3 different activities. We wear a colored button to keep track of our group. Groups change each day, which gives us a chance to work with all of our classmates each week. After centers, we talk about the calendar, do some counting, and read another book and sing a song. Then snack, buddy book time and playground before we head home each day.

There's nothing like good books with good friends!

When our centers were done, there was time for some fine motor hand toys (bubble wrap popping is a favorite in the basket), the sensory table, and puppets!

Getting Acquainted!

We had our 2013-2014 Get Acquainted Day last Thursday! It was a good chance to come and play for just a short time, before starting school officially later this week. Ms. Heather and Mrs. Horton were so excited to meet our new students for the year. Some have been at WIPP before, and others are brand new to our wonderful school. Everyone found some friends to play with in our class! Even though it was a short day, we had time for a project with our name letters, a couple of stories, some songs and a birthday treat to celebrate one of our students.

We sang Wheels on the Bus as we added felt board pieces.

We may have had a short day, but we had time for some treats!
