More October Fun: 10/10- 10/13

We've been learning more about nocturnal animals, took a closer look at Oo and Nn, played with some math concepts and kept going with Halloween fun this past week!

In our language centers this week, we enjoyed some rebus readers with our monster fingers. We also used stickers and markers to make our own little pumpkin books. This open ended writing center was a big hit! Some children were all about the stickers, others chose to draw on the pages, some did both, and a few used the word cards provided to add some text to their pages. Each child took the little blank book and made it his or her own creation!

Our math centers had us playing with numbers, shapes and patterns. We used the light boxes and Halloween pieces to count and make patterns. We played a batty number identification game with paint dotters, and practiced our shapes for one of our morning table jobs.

This happened a lot at the light boxes!
The kids started counting and lining up shapes, and it naturally evolved into patterning.

Cooperative play!
We had 2 different cooperative play activities for our rug center during the week- legos and puppets.

Arts and Crafts!
We made some giant owls this week, and tried out using forks to add some feathery texture to our painting. Our silly flock looks adorable!

We painted with Halloween colors!

After glittering up some black paper and cutting into strips, we built an Nn (just like we had done at circle time) and added some stars, a moon and an owl to make a nighttime Nn.

Of course, the kids finish center activities at different times, so we always have something to do when we are done and waiting to switch activities. At our red table this week, we had the hand toys for one group. Time at the sensory table is always big fun after finishing up, too!

Check back next week to see what we've been up to at school!
