Week 2: September 5-7

Well, we had a very short week between Labor Day and our Hurricane Irma days, but we still had fun! We started out talking and learning about ourselves as we continued working on our school routines and basic skills. One of the first things we work on is our NAME. After cutting up straws as a morning job, we carefully traced our names in glue (tricky fine motor!). Then we glued down all those little straw pieces to make a colorful bumpy name.

We also had a wonderful time making ourselves silly with our dry erase faces! After practicing writing our name at the bottom (blurred out), we used the dry erase markers to make our pictures as silly as can be- the best part was easily erasing one picture and starting all over again.

We made little Mini Me versions of ourselves this week! First, we painted a person cutout with the color of skin tone paint that we felt was a close match. Then we dressed Mini Me in a new outfit, and after looking in the mirror, added some eyes and hair to match our own.

We can read our names too! We made little books of foods we like, with our name on every page. We took turns reading our little books to our center group, practicing moving our finger as we say words. Ask them to read it to you at home!

Everyone loves to paint! There were no directions at this center, other than to practice keeping the brushes with only one color.
It is always exciting to see what masterpieces the kids create on their own!

Our Too Much Glue projects from last Friday have been s-l-o-w-l-y drying! Now we know what happens when we use giant puddles of glue! Just like in the story, we made a glue guy with all kinds of stuff stuck. They were still glue-y when we left on our hurricane break, but the extra week has them finally dry and ready to come home!

We started another project right before our break after reading the book Looking Like Me, about how everyone is lots of different things: dancers, artists, jumpers, brothers, sisters, poets, etc. We took pictures looking in the mirror, and you'll have to check back soon to see what we will create!
